Dust Settles – Not Your Usual Alternative Wedding Fair

Dust Settles – Not Your Usual Alternative Wedding Fair

The other week I packed up my badass jackets in Delores the mini and hit the road to go exhibit at the Dust settles – alternative wedding fair hosted by The Costa Sisters at The Shack Revolution in Hereford.

I had an absolute blast at this Las Vegas themed wedding fair and probably one of the most chilled out ones I have been too.

Not only were the other vendors incredibly talented and fun to meet but the entertainment was spot on too — more about that later

As I rarely do wedding fairs I had to get my thinking cap on as to how I wanted my stall to look. I wanted it to be inviting, relaxed to browse and my jackets had to be on show as I found been on rail doesn’t do them any justice.

I had a vision in my head of how I wanted it too look so I took it to paper and luckily enough my dad the handy man was able to build me the stands that I needed. Boom it was just what I wanted and perfect for showing off my jackets too because that was the main thing.

My kick ass stall at Dust Settles

The best thing about this wedding fair was it started at 5pm so there was no rush to get there early and had the majority of the day to set up – it was all chill!

I got to meet some fantastic couples who were excited about getting married and it was lovely to know that most of them followed me on instagram already to which they were interested to see my jackets in real life. So thank you if you are reading this and came along that day it was awesome to hear that.

Now nothing makes an alternative wedding fair like all the other vendor involved and here is just some of the kick ass suppliers involved that I highly recommend you check out if you are looking for your wedding

Peach and Wolfe – Dreamy badass stationary

Skin and Bones Jewellery –  Incredible designs and just beautiful

The Cake Spa – Marshmallows to die for and the yummiest cakes you’ll ever see.

Pink Palm Events – The raddest events planner

The House Of Love Illustration – Live illustration at your event – how cool

This Will Be Forever – prop hire to die for

But wait there is more and you can find the whole line up of vendors to view here

Now for the entertainment… well all I need to say is what a show they put on from fire breathing badass babes, killer catwalk to a drag bingo and a Trump drag act which was just hilarious and would just be the best thing to shock your auntie at the wedding with but on a serious note do check out these peeps because if you are looking for something alternative for your wedding then look no further.

Bespoke wedding dress for New York bride

Bespoke wedding dress for New York bride

Last year I had the pleasure of making this totally unique bespoke wedding dress for Kate who was getting married in New York – amazing I know right just wait till you see the pictures.

As I have currently stopped my wedding dress service to focus on my leather jackets this dress was an absolute stunner to end on. Find out more about my bespoke leather jackets here

Kate came for a consultation way back in 2018 to have a chat about her ideas on what she wanted. We talked about colours, shapes and fabrics plus it’s also a great way to get my clients to feel relaxed within my studio and find out how I work.

Her ideas back then were completely different to what she ended up having in the end, It’s amazing how much you change in just a year.

Fast forward to 2019 and after many discussions we decided on the shape, style and fabric. Which was the best choice in the end because it just fit so well with the whole look and feel of the wedding.

This is the final design we decided on.

So let’s talk about the fabrics and the shape.

When it came to the fabric I was looking for something elegant and soft, I came across this incredible tulle fabric that had delicate sequinned stars embroidered on in silver and pale gold which looked absolutely stunning.

I knew with the style we were making this had to be used and we did. The bespoke wedding dress was in two parts.

The under dress which was made with a  sweetheart neckline with boning for structure and a gradual flared skirt which was slightly up at the front to show off Kate’s kick ass boot from McQueen.

This was made from a subtle gold duchess satin fabric to tone in well with the tulle fabric.

The second dress was an over dress but the top half was made into a shirt style which look so elegant in the star fabric. The skirt part was the same as the under dress.

The over dress was made separate and with the intention to be worn again — which is even more cooler.

Oh but how could I forget the badass leather jacket she also had made to wear with her dress.

This was also made from a subtle gold leather to tone in with the wedding dress.

It was like everything just fell into place when we found the fabrics.

The making of the bespoke wedding dress.

I started with working with Kates measurements to create a bespoke pattern that was unique to her, I could then develop on this if anything was to change. The next step was to take this into a toile which is a sample garment that helps through the fitting stages.

This is made from a plain fabric to help study the shape and fit of the dress.

Once I was happy with the pattern and the sample garment was fitting to how I liked, I then cut Kate’s dress out in the actual fabric. This is the best bit because you actually start to see the dress come to life as you can see from the photos below.

The under dress being made with leopard print lining.

Final checks to see how it is looking

I started to make the bespoke wedding dress up in the actual fabric 6 months before so it gave us plenty of time for any amendments.

The most fiddly part of the dress was to get the shirt style top to sit right with it being made in a tulle fabric especially around the neck. It was very fine a delicate to sew too, it tested my skills but I got there in the end.

I was so please with the outcome of the dress and the best feeling ever was when Kate brought her friend for a fitting and she burst into tears because she loved it so much. I think we were all nearly in tears at that point.

Having a bespoke wedding dress made is such a unique experience, you see your actual vision come to life in different stages. I truly believe if you are thinking about going for it… do! It’s an incredible journey for the seamstress and the client.

Oh and they honeymooned in Vegas … I mean come on!  Goals right there.

How to order from my Bespoke Biker jacket service

How to order from my Bespoke Biker jacket service

So, you want to order a bespoke biker jacket but not sure what I offer, then fear no more this post is to tell you what entails when you order one of my badass jackets.

What makes my jackets different?

A lot of people are shocked when they find out that my jackets are made from scratch, yes that’s right people all of it from the design, pattern cutting, cutting out of the fabric to the sewing the god dam thing up, Pretty neat huh?

So, your basically buying a on off jacket that made entirely just for you!

When it comes to ordering a unique bespoke biker jacket all you have to do is go to my personalised your own service where you can check out the shapes and styles that I offer through this service.

This service is includes creating a jacket to your personal taste, so if you are looking for a particular design or even just to change some design details that works for me.

But here is a little bit more information on how the design part works.

I am open to creating any design for you and so if you have a particular theme to your wedding or colour pallet I am happy to work with that to create a special design.

My jackets aren’t just for weddings either they can be ordered just to wear every day, at events, for businesses or festivals so same goes as above looking for a particular design just drop me an email at hello@borntothrea.co.uk and we can discuss further

The fabrics

I wanted to offer something a little bit different when it comes to patches, so I work with a mixture of textures including glitter and faux leather fabrics to create these unique designs.

All fabrics are sourced from small business in the UK to create a hand appliquéd design, each design is drawn out first to make sure you are 100% happy.

I then transfer this design to a template to help me cut it out in the fabric. A lot of time and care goes in to the designs/ patches. They are glued and then stitched on in place to make sure they last and don’t budge!

The great thing about these designs is they don’t have to be on the back they can be anywhere on the jacket.

Just want a plain jacket? No problem I am more than happy to make one.

My jackets are made in standard UK sizes from size 8 to 18 online but I can go up to a size 26.

But wait… my bespoke biker jackets can be adapted if needed for example in length i can do shorter, longer, petite – this can all be accommodated all I ask for you to contact me via email for this as the price can vary and I need to price the fabric accordingly.

I use high quality real leather for all my jackets and I have spent a long-time fabric sourcing from ethical leather merchants to get the right fabric to work for my designs.

All my fabrics come from the UK and sourced sustainably.

Payments:

I have several options when it comes to payment:

Pay the full amount or if you would like to do a payment plan I usually ask for a 50% deposit from the full amount to cover costs of the fabrics, then you can either split the rest of the costs down in to one or two final payments, all I ask is for the payment to be completed before I post the jacket out.

I accept PayPal or Bank transfer via an invoice.

I pride myself on creating badass leather jackets to last a lifetime and bring out the rebellious babe in you.

When you wear a piece of Born to Thread I guarantee you will feel like an icon.

Take A Walk On The Wild Side

Take A Walk On The Wild Side

A while back I was scrolling through Instagram when I came across Ashley’s super cool photography account. I absolutely loved the look and vibe of the photos and knew in an instant that I had to follow.

Roll on to a few months back and after many likes and comment exchanges, we decided to collaborate together. I mean who wouldn’t say no to a shoot in Vegas!

I highly recommend you go check Ashely out if you’re in need of a photographer for your wedding.

For the shoot I decided to use champagne matt sequin wiggle dress that I had made a few years back accompanied with my pink wild side jacket, which can be ordered here

The photos as expected looked incredible, I mean hats off to the model as well because she looks cool as.

I’m pretty excited that I can share these images with you, I never even thought that I’d get a chance like this to showcase my work like this, so I’m celebrating every moment.

It’s amazing how a small little app can bring people together and collaborate in such a way.

Hands up who wants to go to Vegas right now.

Punk Rock Pizza Elopement Styled Photoshoot

Punk Rock Pizza Elopement Styled Photoshoot

Omg! Pizza elopement…. well who wouldn’t want to get married in a pizza place – How cool

A few months back I was contacted by the lovely Nina who runs Wedded Kiss, she had absolutely fallen in love with my jackets and wanted to feature them in a shoot that they were organising.

I absolutely love being involved in shoot and this one sounded exciting so I said yes, They were going for a rockabilly / punk rock theme so I thought my white heart breaker and pink wifey jacket would be perfect! so I popped them in the post and prayed they would arrive safely in America ready for the shoot.

It’s so great to see so many ideas for wedding these day and you don’t have to stick with the traditions – I mean who wants that!

You should defiantly bring YOUR personality into it no matter what and that is defiantly what this styled shoot was all about.

Pizza, style and most of all a loving couple which the photographer Arika Jordon captured beautifully.

Feast your eyes on these beauties and then maybe go plan a wedding with pizza involved!
