All my favourite things that happened in 2018

All my favourite things that happened in 2018

Well, hello 2019! Yes, I know were already a couple of weeks in already but the struggle is real!

Anyone else struggling with these dark morning and finding the motivation to get up go. Any way enough of the winging and more about showing you my amazing year that I had in 2018!

I was involved in some amazing shoots through out the year, so let me tell you about them all.

First up was my very own fairytale shoot that I organised with the super talented Katie from Alt Wedding Co, based in Leeds Yorkshire and can highly recommend these guys to you.

I wanted to showcase some of items I can make for my services that are stated on my site.

You can view more images across on my look book page

I was then contacted by Nina a cool ass chick who owns Wedded Kiss in America. Nina was organising a punk rock pizza shoot, she had fallen in love with my jackets and wanted to use them. How could I say no to that when pizza is involved!

You can view the blog post I wrote about it here.

Next up was a collaboration with Marry Me Ink who I met through Instagram, the power of social media. This was a great opportunity was there was so many suppliers involved in the shoot and it was great to meet them all and put faces to business I had heard of. It was held at River Mills Ballroom which is just a stunning place and would def recommend if you are looking for a venue.

Then my highlight of 2018 had to be my collab with Ashley Myers who’s work I have swooned over on Insta for ages, we somehow got chatting one day and decided to do a shoot . Ashley is photographer based in Las Vegas, so I popped a couple of outfits in the post for her create a shoot as to what she likes and the phots were more than I could have imagined.

View them in my look book here or read the blog.

I always love connecting with other to create cool ass pic, so if you ever interested in working with me please just contact me here

Now on from the shoots and on to the amazing jackets I was able to create for real life peeps and badass brides. I feel incredibly grateful for all the orders I had throughout 2018, I absolutely love making biker jackets and being able to make something for you to keep as an investment piece — just feels great.

I even got to work with real leather for a bespoke jacket, which has been a goal of mine since before I stared selling jackets. Now in 2019 my new jackets I am launching will be made from real leather which I have spent time researching and I have ethically sourced from G. H. Leathers which are based in the UK.

Here are just a few of my fav orders from 2018

If you are interested in following me more then head over to Insta where you can find me daily chatting shit and showing you behind the scenes footage of my day to day life in Born to Thread.

Top nine Insta posts!

Take A Walk On The Wild Side

Take A Walk On The Wild Side

A while back I was scrolling through Instagram when I came across Ashley’s super cool photography account. I absolutely loved the look and vibe of the photos and knew in an instant that I had to follow.

Roll on to a few months back and after many likes and comment exchanges, we decided to collaborate together. I mean who wouldn’t say no to a shoot in Vegas!

I highly recommend you go check Ashely out if you’re in need of a photographer for your wedding.

For the shoot I decided to use champagne matt sequin wiggle dress that I had made a few years back accompanied with my pink wild side jacket, which can be ordered here

The photos as expected looked incredible, I mean hats off to the model as well because she looks cool as.

I’m pretty excited that I can share these images with you, I never even thought that I’d get a chance like this to showcase my work like this, so I’m celebrating every moment.

It’s amazing how a small little app can bring people together and collaborate in such a way.

Hands up who wants to go to Vegas right now.

Body Positivity | Nicole Jane Photography

Here at BornTo Thread I am all about body positivity and making yourself feel good no matter what so, I would like to introduce the super talented Nicole from https://www.nicolejanephotography.com who has wrote a fantastic uplifting post this week.

People say that the more you visualise something, think about it and how much you want that thing, it will come to fruition, what they don’t talk about is how this doesn’t only apply to positive desires.
I told myself day in and day out that I hated my body, no-one else convinced me of that, I did it all by myself. Until I realised the amount of damage these thoughts and “beliefs” were causing.

Starting boudoir photography was the simple change that made me see differently. “How the fuck can you photograph women and expect them to see their beauty when you can’t see your own?”. This was my turning point.

I began to really LOOK at myself. Why do I hate my belly? Why do back rolls offend me so? Then I began taking self portraits and this changed everything.

Do you want to know which part of my body I love most? (After my butt of course) My back rolls. No I’m not feeding you bullshit, I genuinely adore them, they look cute! Here’s the photograph that helped me see them this way.

I know it’s hard, and there are many ways in which we all would like to change the way we look, society has brought us up that way. Become part of the revolution! Love your fat, or your flat chest, or your freckles. Go bra-less, no matter your boob size! I’m an E cup, my nipples touch my belly when I sit down!

If you want to change something, do it because it makes you feel healthier or improves your state of mind, not because it makes you fit in.

I challenge you to stand in front of the mirror EVERY DAY for at least 10 minutes for the next week and REALLY LOOK AT YOUR BODY. Ask yourself why that thing you don’t like offends you, then ask yourself to ACCEPT IT. You don’t have to love it, but acceptance of individual areas leads to a more likely love of your body.

If you want accountability, join my online community Facebook.com/groups/nicolejaneboudoir where I’ll be creating a thread for this challenge!

Personal style – rad to the bone skirt

Personal style – rad to the bone skirt

The best thing about been able to sew is that I can make myself clothing and I really enjoy this when I get a chance to, so I thought I would start doing a series of posts on the handmade clothing that I make myself and how I personally style them.

So first up is my rad to the bone skirt, this has to be one of my favorite items of clothing that I have made for myself. I’m pretty obsessed with Alexander Henry fabric and the prints that they create, if your and avid sewer and have not heard of this fabric brand do check it out you won’t be disappointed, Its available form most online fabric shops.  As soon as I saw this fabric I knew I had to use it for something.

I decided on a calf length skirt with a curved waistband which sits perfect and snug on the waists and curves out to fall over the hips, I love this style of band as it gives you a little bit of definition and makes the skirt hang beautifully down.  The colours are great too because it can be worn with absolutely anything and still look smart casual.

I love to style this skirt up with a Bardot neckline top which is a personal favorite for me as I find this style flatters me more than a v or basic round neck. When wearing something like this it’s great to just experiment with what top suits you and it won’t take long, you’ll be rocking your style in no time.

If I’m going to a fancy do and want to wear this skirt I also team it up with a blouse which gives it more of a dressed-up feel.

Just so happens that when I made this skirt I found a lovely pair of velvet heels from TK Maxx which was a colour match perfection to the skirt. Now I have this great outfit that I can dress up or down for whatever event.

If you’re looking for a skirt similar to this, please do contact me as I do offer a Bespoke clothing service.

River Mills Ballroom Photoshoot

A celestial dream is what this shoot is all about, sumptuous gold, navy blues and clean white settings all styled by the fabulous Kook Events

I had the honor thanks to Marry Me Ink for asking me, to be a part of a collaborative shoot back in January at River Mills Ballroom which by the way is such a beautiful venue, do check it out as it has such quirky little rooms dotted around inside the place.

I wanted to keep in with the colour theme, so I decided to go with a white sleeveless biker jacket and my rebel girl biker jacket, so they toned in well with the bridal theme.

For the sleeveless jacket I decided to create a design with stars as if they were floating through the sky almost like in the milky way. I alternated the colour ways to pale pink, gold and navy then swirled them in pattern around the jacket. I loved the design so much you can now order one from my online shop here.

A sleeveless jacket?! I here you say…

Well yes let’s have a little chat about them, they can look so simple and cute over your wedding dress and it add something a little bit different for the day rather than your typical ‘boloro’ it also doesn’t hide too much of the dress either which is always a winner!

So, you can look beautiful and awesome at the same time!

You only have to check out these amazing pictures by Tux and Tales Photography to see what I’m talking about. My jackets were worn over a Legend Bridal dress – alternative STUNNING bridalwear.

Also check out the other talented suppliers that were involved on the day.

Punk Rock Pizza Elopement Styled Photoshoot

Punk Rock Pizza Elopement Styled Photoshoot

Omg! Pizza elopement…. well who wouldn’t want to get married in a pizza place – How cool

A few months back I was contacted by the lovely Nina who runs Wedded Kiss, she had absolutely fallen in love with my jackets and wanted to feature them in a shoot that they were organising.

I absolutely love being involved in shoot and this one sounded exciting so I said yes, They were going for a rockabilly / punk rock theme so I thought my white heart breaker and pink wifey jacket would be perfect! so I popped them in the post and prayed they would arrive safely in America ready for the shoot.

It’s so great to see so many ideas for wedding these day and you don’t have to stick with the traditions – I mean who wants that!

You should defiantly bring YOUR personality into it no matter what and that is defiantly what this styled shoot was all about.

Pizza, style and most of all a loving couple which the photographer Arika Jordon captured beautifully.

Feast your eyes on these beauties and then maybe go plan a wedding with pizza involved!
