FAQS Just for you!

There is noting like stating the obvious in a blog post but I do get asked these question  and if you haven’t read my FAQ page then I thought I would iron out the answers for you.

Grab a cuppa and lets get stuck in.

I’VE FOUND MY PERFECT DRESS; DO YOU DO REPLICA’S?

I do NOT make direct copies and this is something that I am not comfortable with doing. I know it sounds harsh but I’ve spent years and sleepless nights! (at uni) developing my skills and learning my craft. However, I am happy to take ideas and elements as inspiration to help me design your dress or outfit.

HOW LONG DOES A BESPOKE GARMENT TAKE?

Handmade leather jacket:

If you are looking at a personalised jacket please allow 6 weeks to get in touch but it can be made within 3 to 4 weeks, depending on design.

Jackets that are ready to buy from my shop can take 2 to 4 weeks depending how busy I am.

Bespoke clothing:

The process of a made to measure outfit can take 6 to 8 weeks (depending on the garment been made) with a final fitting required to ensure the perfect fit and finish.

Wedding dress / Bridesmaids:

A custom wedding dress takes time and skill and can be completed in 5 months but if you were looking for a lot of detailing I would recommend 8 to 9 months as this process cannot be rushed.

You can read more about my services here

Whats been happening

Whats been happening

Whats been happening? Well I’ll tell you its been a busy few months over here in BTT HQ! I’ve had sparkly sequin bridesmaid outfits on the go which are all ready to be posted out for a December wedding.

I also had a custom jacket for a Beetlejuice themed wedding which I made back in September… I mean how cool is that.

The bride made a definite decision that she want red and a black and white striped lining to be involved, so for the back patch we went for a red glitter heart and a pearlised white leatherette for the ‘wifey’ writing, both elements are all cut out and handmade specially to use on one of my jacket which are also handmade from scratch.

I found this awesome black and white striped fabric online and knew it was a must to use for the lining, everything was starting to team up really well and went with the theme of the wedding deliciously.

The shape and style of the jacket was cropped which meant the length was cut shorter, with this style sits nice and fitted into the waist. This is also a perfect choice if you didn’t want to hide any detailing you had on the back of the dress.

Last week I received this awesome picture of the bride who had finally eloped to Vegas to marry the man of her dreams. Don’t you just love the whole look and how rad does the jacket look with her kickass red dress – Goals right there!

Here are some more close up shots for you to feast your eyes over. My 2018 books are now closed but if you are looking for your very own personalised handcrafted leather jacket for 2019 then contact me today so we can discuss!

Let’s talk sustainability

Let’s talk sustainability

Let’s talk sustainability…

I’ve been speaking recently over on my social media about what sustainability means to me and why I’m so passionate about why I do what I do in my business.

It’s important to me to get the message across that Born to Thread is all about sustainable clothing.

I want people to start to invest in good clothing as fast fashion is having a huge impact on our environment and people’s physical lives, it’s shocking.

This isn’t just a recent thing it has been happening for years, recently I’ve reading a few articles about what’s happening and have also watched the very powerful documentary on the BBC by Stacey Dooley – Fashions dirty secret (a must if you want to learn more)

I have always been aware of this as we learnt about a few things at university, but this documentary definitely opened my eyes to how disgusting, wasteful and the harmful effect it is causing.

This is why I am so proud of my business been built on sustainable clothing. I try my hardest not to waste and everything you see on my website is made by my fair hands and only me, well maybe a little hand from my mum when things get busy! But you won’t find any major big factories here.

Born to Thread is all about slow fashion and creating a brand that people invest in rather than throw away.

When you shop well and support independent brands it makes the experience so much more memorable and when you think about it you are actually buying a piece of art that somebody has created just for you.

So please have a little think today, have a read of the articles and start to make a change.

It will be so worth it in the end.

Take A Walk On The Wild Side

Take A Walk On The Wild Side

A while back I was scrolling through Instagram when I came across Ashley’s super cool photography account. I absolutely loved the look and vibe of the photos and knew in an instant that I had to follow.

Roll on to a few months back and after many likes and comment exchanges, we decided to collaborate together. I mean who wouldn’t say no to a shoot in Vegas!

I highly recommend you go check Ashely out if you’re in need of a photographer for your wedding.

For the shoot I decided to use champagne matt sequin wiggle dress that I had made a few years back accompanied with my pink wild side jacket, which can be ordered here

The photos as expected looked incredible, I mean hats off to the model as well because she looks cool as.

I’m pretty excited that I can share these images with you, I never even thought that I’d get a chance like this to showcase my work like this, so I’m celebrating every moment.

It’s amazing how a small little app can bring people together and collaborate in such a way.

Hands up who wants to go to Vegas right now.

Leather Weather

Leather Weather

Hello!

I’m back from my much-needed month break away in Portugal and it’s been fab. Really made me sit back and think about the future of BTT and what direction I would like to go in.

Don’t you just love time away to do this? Any way I hope you’ve all had a fabulous summer too and took some time for self-care and relaxation.

I have amazing plans for my biker jackets and currently working behind the scenes on a new range to bring out for you.

I’m also in the process of sourcing and working with real leather, as much as I love the synthetic leather it’s just not cutting it for me anymore and would love to use some real luxurious fabrics.

This doesn’t mean to say I still won’t be making them, they will still be available to buy in the leather look fabric.

September is here (where has this year gone) and I officially declare it leather weather. It is the perfect time to don that biker jacket, as it’s not too hot and it’s not too cold! B-E-A Utiful!

I have a few spots open for a bespoke one or if you fancy ordering ones from my range then just head to my shop and take your pick.

So why choose a BTT one?
Duh? Why wouldn’t you… They are all individually designed and handmade from my studio in Yorkshire UK, so that means they are all unique and made just for YOU.

I take time to create each one to the highest quality to make you feel badass.

What does this all mean?

With every single one been handmade you can choose from a simple plain jacket that’s stylish and sleek to a customised jacket with a cool ass design bespoke to you from my range of designs.

It’s that simple.

How long do I have to wait?

At the moment jackets can be ready within 2 weeks of ordering

You mentioned real leather is that option available already?

Absolutely just contact me for more information.

Still thinking about it? Then feel free to ask me more here

What’s happening this month…

It’s looking to be an exciting busy few months for BTT already, I have a few bespoke bridal jackets to design and make up, which is always exciting. I also have a group of ladies who are heading to me for their bespoke bridesmaid outfits.

Here’s to a kick ass September and remember you can wear whatever you want to

Embrace your style

Embrace your style

There is something so therapeutic about sitting at a sewing machine and creating a garment, it’s always been in me to make people feel amazing especially in the clothing that they wear.

It’s a big thing, right? In what you choose to wear, you should be feeling fabulous everyday so that’s where Born to Thread steps in and helps you.

This is what I pride my business on the fact that all my products are handmade from my off the peg items (which can be found in my shop page) to my bespoke made to measure items. I make them for you! I help you create confidence in the outfits you wear.

I think there is so much pressure for people to fit in and look a certain way. ‘You should be wearing this, or you should be wearing that. Oh, you’re into that music so therefore you should dress like this! Bollocks I say.

Embrace anything, your style is your style and if you want to wear that pink shirt with leopard print trousers and listen to Celine Dion, the why the hell not!

So now I’ve got me preach out of the way here few little photos of a jacket I’ve been working on this week.

The bride is going for a black sleeveless jacket with an epic backpatch which I have spent the weekend drawing out. It’s been a tricky one as the surname was quite long, but I got there in the end and looking forward to the finish product.

I love the fact that my jackets are so diverse from wearing them at weddings, festivals and even everyday wear. Also, did you know that I ship worldwide, yes that’s right. So, no matter where you are you can still order one!
